Stacy Kranitz is a photographer based in Smithville, Tenn. She has had recent solo shows in Marfa, New Orleans, Asheville and L.A., as well as a forthcoming exhibit in Arles, France. She studied at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, and got her MFA from UC Irvine, and was voted Time’s Instagram Photographer of the Year in 2015. Kranitz has commissioned work for publications as varied as VICE and Granta, Harper’s and Buzzfeed, and has been featured in Columbia Journalism Review, Time, Juxtapoz and The Guardian.

The work in this exhibit is taken from a body of work called From the Study on Post-Pubescent Manhood. From the artist’s statement: “I have focused my gaze on a group of young men that I befriended at a dystopian compound in Ohio. I went there searching for displays of violence that function as catharsis so I could validate behavior that might at first glance seem destructive, dissolute, or anti-social.”
