Jenna Westra (b. 1986) lives and works in New York. She received her MFA from Hunter College in 2015. Westra’s work makes permanent impermanent gestures and relationships, creating importance in moments and movements that would otherwise go unnoticed. She works collaboratively in the studio with primarily female models to explore performance and reclaim the female body as a powerful form for feminine control, not simply a repository for the male gaze.

Her work has been shown internationally with exhibitions in Berlin, Zurich, Madrid, Los Angeles and New York. She has presented recent solo exhibitions at Schwarz Contemporary, Berlin, Fahrenheit Madrid, Spain, Anthony Greaney, Boston (2019) and Lubov in New York (2018). She has been awarded residencies at Hercules Art Studio Program and L21 x Fundación Camper Curatorial and Artist Residency. Atlas, her first book, was published by Hassla in 2018 and presented at NADA New York. Her exhibitions have been reviewed in the New Yorker, the New York Times, Wall Street International, Boston Globe, and others. Jenna also teaches photography at Parsons School of Design.
